What is the upper circuit and how is it decided?
When stocks reach the maximum limit decided for the day, it is called that the stock has hit the upper circuit. When it happens there are no sellers in the stock and only buying bids can be seen. Upper circuits are calculated based on the previous day’s closing price of the stock. Stock exchanges set up a price band every day to protect investors from a drastic single-day reactive share price hike. In India, the circuit limits are set by the Securities and Exchanges Board of India (SEBI).
